pharmacist · Melbourne

Hi, I'mUsama.

I'm a pharmacist based in Melbourne and a co-founder of PharmAssistAU. I share what I'm working on, what I'm learning about AI in healthcare, and what I'm figuring out along the way.

A little more about me →

01 · everyday pharmacy

The things I notice at work.

Customers waiting to hand in an eScript. Someone unsure which product they need. A pharmacist switching between requests while trying to check prescriptions. These are the everyday problems that interest me.

02 · how I approach it

Start with the workflow.

I start with what happens in the pharmacy, then look at whether a clearer flow or a useful tool could help.

  • PharmacyStart with what customers and the team need to get done.
  • WorkflowsLook at each step: what is confusing, repeated or easily missed?
  • TechnologyTry a clearer flow or a useful tool, then see what needs changing.

What I'm working on.

PharmAssistAU

I'm a co-founder, working with the team on the digital front door to pharmacy. Our in-store kiosk helps customers submit eScripts, find products and connect with the pharmacy team.

04 · notes

What I'm learning.

Practical questions I'm exploring while working on healthcare software.

  • Healthcare software and the TGA

How do I work out which requirements apply to what we're making?

  • Where the data goes

Where does information come from, who can access it, and which services does it pass through?

  • Using AI in everyday work

What can it help with, where does it fall short, and what still needs a person's judgement?

what I'm interested in

Making everyday pharmacy easier to navigate.

For customers, and for the team looking after them.
